Chick
Room Curriculum
The Chick room
curriculum is where you begin to see the defined areas of the Montessori
Method of teaching. These areas consist of the following: Practical
Life, Sensorial, Math, and Language.
Practical Life
is the first area that the child is introduced to and then Sensorial, Math
and Language.
One of our many
goals in the classroom is to get the children to make choices, use their
Fine and Gross motor skills in ways such as getting out mats, rolling
up mats, taking lessons off shelves, and working on the lessons
independently. The children are also made responsible for cleaning up their
own work.
Another is
to make sure that the children master their self-help skills. For
example: feeding, dressing and also completing potty training on their own.
These are also areas where eye and hand coordination are used.
We also go over
the months of the year, days of the week, and letter of the week.
This is one of the many ways that we expose the children to the calendar,
numbers, and language. We fit our art and cooking projects around the
letter of the week. We do morning exercises and movement activities
in order to promote language, math, Fine and Gross motor skills, and to
help the children with following directions.
The areas
we touch upon will definitely make for a great start in any child's
academic and personal development.
